A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with an apparent brawl that reportedly broke out over an argument about a broken bottle.
The July 10 incident occurred just before 9 p.m. when a man walking along Adams Boulevard with his girlfriend kicked a bottle that shattered, Los Angeles Police Officer David Cuellar told the Los Angeles Times.
According to Cuellar, two nearby men believed the bottle had been thrown at them and began arguing with the couple.
The couple left the scene and went to their apartment, only to return later with several relatives to continue the argument.
Cuellar told The Times that a “big ole fight” erupted, during which the suspect, Cornell Richardson, allegedly pulled out a machete and stabbed one of the relatives.
The victim was taken to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition as of Sunday.
No one else was arrested in connection with the incident, and Cuellar said none of those involved were affiliated with the nearby University of Southern California.
Richardson, according to The Times, had been released from the L.A. County Jail on June 16, where he had been held on misdemeanor charges of carrying a knife in public and “exhibiting a deadly weapon.”
